Master storytelling and you can damn near print money at will.
But where the heck do you even start?
This 7 part storytelling framework might be the most powerful persuasion tool ever created (used by Nike):
This is the most fundamental story to sell your ideas:
• A [HERO]
• has a [PROBLEM]
• And meets a [GUIDE]
• Who gives them a [PLAN]
• That calls the hero to [ACTION]
• And helps them avoid [FAILURE]
• And ultimately ends in [SUCCESS]
The world's top companies:
• Nike
• Apple
• Google
• Amazon
Have used this framework for years (and built their marketing strategy using it).
Let's take a look at how Nike has used it to build one of the world's top companies:
1. A HERO
Nike needs to define:
• WHO their ideal customer is.
• WHY they should choose Nike.
• WHAT that customer finds valuable.
And it's done by defining the HERO.
Example:
2. Has a PROBLEM
• What is the problem?
• How does it affect them?
• What are the implications?
Generally, Nike outlines the problem as:
• Lack of status
• Or lack of performance
Example:
3. And meets a GUIDE
Now, the brand is positioning itself to help solve the problem:
They must illustrate:
• Reputation
• Credibility
• Value
Nike uses a lot of famous athletes to inspire their "hero" & guide them:
4. Who gives them a PLAN
Now, illustrate why the guide (Nike) is the right choice:
• Features & benefits
• How to solve the problem
• Why this is the best solution
Example: Nike uses features, benefits, & technology to explain their plan:
5. And calls them to ACTION
The most obvious calls-to-action are:
• "buy"
• "Join us"
• "Subscribe"
Etcetera.
But Nike has the most iconic call-to-action on Earth:
6. That helps avoid FAILURE
Illustrate what happens if they don't buy:
• Loss aversion
• The consequences
• How the problem grows
Example: Nike illustrates greatness come with the risk of failure – their brand helps instill confidence:
7. And ultimately ends with SUCCESS
What is the:
• Transformation
• New meaning
• Better life
That the hero attains with the brand?
Nike instills that together – humans (the hero & community) can rise if we put our minds to it:

TL;DR
A 7-part framework to master the art of storytelling:
• A [HERO]
• has a [PROBLEM]
• And meets a [GUIDE]
• Who gives them a [PLAN]
• That calls the hero to [ACTION]
• And helps them avoid [FAILURE]
• And ultimately ends in [SUCCESS]
