Germany is one of the most entertaining teams (No surprise it’s a Flick team). They tend to be the protagonist, hold possession, tilt field, and they do it with a style, but they have one serious weakness; counter attacks (No surprise it’s a Flick team)
Although they try hard to keep the structure in possession, some moments come either in their counter attack or set play, and distances between lines expand way too much, players forget the structure and leave CBs alone.
Having said these, against the bet books, they are still one of my strong favorites. They can use various structures in build-up and high press in a fluid way. When things click, they play really beautiful football.
I showed some discouraging instances from the ENG game, but there were many promising signs and clear improvements as well. Distances were much more optimum in most cases that helped progression and counter press.
In addition, Goretzka’s return helped Bayern to improve their resistance to counter attacks, it should help Germany as well. Recent strong performances of Kimmich, Musiala, and Gnabry are also encouraging.
