intention of making his art available to the masses. His paintings sold at a princely sum of Rs 1500 (or more). They were unaffordable for most people. Technology enabled him to make prints of some of his works and sell them at affordable prices.

The key word to note here is 'Prints".
A print is not an original work in oil by the master artist,though you may see his name or signature at the bottom of the print. It remains just that - a print,or more specifically, a lithograph.

The subject is the same. The medium and technology used is completely different.
While oil paintings remain few and invaluable, Ravi Varma prints are available even today,as they are still widely sought after. Due to the difference in medium prints remains affordable to date.
