1. I sincerely welcome you all to this very important programme; the 1st @UNWTO global conference on linking tourism, culture and the creative industries: pathways to recovery and inclusive development.
2. The programmes comes at a time that Nigeria and the world over are seeking for industries that can stimulate socio-economic recovery, alleviate poverty, mitigate the effects of climate changeโฆ
โฆaccelerate job creation and inclusive development and foster international peace and cooperation.
3. Within these premises, tourism, culture and the creative industries therefore present a huge potential to bridge this gap, especially at a time of great economic challenges the world over
4. Today we are witnessing the making of history in two very important ways.First is the fact that this is the first time @UNWTO would be bringing stakeholders in tourism, culture and the creative industries together at a single forum to deliberate on issues of common interest.
Secondly, this is the first event to be held since the completion of phase 1 of the 100-million-dollar renovation of the iconic National Theatre.
Itโs important to note that this is the first major renovation work on the National Theatre since it was built over 40 years ago. Many thanks to the Bankersโ Committee for this great job
5. This conference starts today with two expertsโ workshops on tourism and culture, as well as tourism and the creative industries. Both workshops are being held simultaneously.
It will also be accompanied by a symposium on Innovation and Digitalization.
It will also be accompanied by a symposium on Innovation and Digitalization.
Participants are invited to seize the opportunity of the conference to discover actual and potential investment opportunities and human capacity development , in addition to sharing best practices on how to move the sectors forward.
6. A special feature of todayโs event is the participation of our very young ones. These are Children from Pampers Private School here in Lagos State, whose interest and love for the sector have propelled them to be part of the programme.
They have come with the agenda of putting the Secretary General and I to the test with some questions.
I am particularly excited by their participation and I have no doubt about their potential to contribute to the socio-economic development of our country. I look forward to an exciting time with these young ones who, I believe, will take us to greater heights
7. I thank you all for your kind attention
