I analyzed 300+ resumes for data related jobs and I observed common mistakes.
My advice to increase your chances to get an interview for your data dream job with your resume:
My advice to increase your chances to get an interview for your data dream job with your resume:
Recruiters know you only with your resume, fill it carefully.
Avoid at all costs spelling mistakes.
If you’re not a good writer, find someone (friend, family…) to review it.
Trust me, some people don't call candidates who make spelling mistakes, they think it's neglected.

Facilitate the reading: use colors, font
For instance: bold dark blue for companies, bold navy blue for titles and regular navy blue for description.
Even better for creative: take colors used by the company you want to work with to show your motivation.

Write a title to explicitly share what you are looking.
Ex: "I am looking for a 6 months data analyst internship in January, 2023"

Recruiters may be lazy, facilitate them the job: write the duration instead of just the period.
Ex: "02/2018 to 07/2019" -> 1,5 years (from 02/2018 to 07/2019)
Ex: "02/2018 to 07/2019" -> 1,5 years (from 02/2018 to 07/2019)
Adapt it to job you apply to.
You want to be a data analyst? Highlight SQL, Tableau, etc. skills. Remove C# or C++ skills, change your title “Looking for a data analyst job”.
You want to work in automotive? Show experience related to automotive (it may be a personal project)

The aim is not to write down EVERYTHING you know in your resume, but to select what is relevant to the job you apply to.

Don’t forget to mention SOFT SKILLS. They are very important, explore data is great but it's better if you have skills to show the output of your work.
Display hobbies that really are your hobbies, not what “seems cool”.
I like to ask questions about hobbies to see how candidates are when they talk about something they really like. And it happened some candidates where unable to tell me a word about their passion.

Please, note that my advice is particularly true for France but I know countries might have different rules, don’t hesitate to comment if you notice something not applicable to your country or if you disagree, I’m interested to hear from you.
For instance, I had a conversation with @bce3227 who told me about resume parsing bots. Having a too atypical resume might result in trouble for bots to parse it. I guess it might be true for some big companies.
I’m curious if someone have a feedback to share about it.
