High funding doesn't mean high stipend.
When funding amount stated on offer letter or I20 is between $50k-$80k, people interpret it to mean high earning. Not true!
Someone with $35k funding may earn more than someone with $80k funding.
Funding covers COA, and COA isn't stipend
NB: COA is short form for referring to cost of attendance.
Your offer letter/I20 is simply explaining to you and the embassy how much it'll cost you to study in the said school for a year, and how much funding they've offered you.
NB: Tuition and health insurance which constitute a bigger part of the COA are waived, not paid to your acct.
Your stipend is just one out of other things covered by your funding.
Stipend covers your living expenses, while the entire funding covers your COA including stipend.
So, before you start jubilating after receiving your offer letter, find out what your annual stipend is. Out of that $85k, your stipend could be $15k-$30k.
