NoCode is the FUTURE of building startups!
A head hunter built his startup to:
- $100,000+ revenue
- 30,000 SEO traffic
- in 2.5 months!
$500/mo NoCode tech stack VS. $800K to $1M to buildd from scratch!
Here’s how Bubble & Webflow powered a jobs marketplace 🧵
Structure:
1) What is FiveTeams?
2) What problems did they face?
3) NoCode Tech Stack!
4) Impact of using NoCode
5) The downside
1/ What is FiveTeams?
FiveTeams is a Berlin-based passive job-hunting marketplace.
Alessandro, one of the co-founders worked as a headhunter for a recruitment firm back when he was in school.
Through that experience, he understood how the recruitment dynamics worked.
(contd)
He got a sense of how hard it is to find good talent that is open to switching roles.
He intricately learned how present job conditions, career path, salary, and future goals can inform this decision.
So, with this experience he built FiveTeams.
(contd.)
FiveTeams essentially connects startups with talent. But, not just any talent!
It specifically focuses on talent that isn't job hunting actively and is already working for a corporation.
But, they might consider switching to a different role if a higher salary is offered.
2/ What problems did they face?
So, the team had a workable idea.
They only had one technical person who was supposed to buildd the MVP. But, he left once they received funding.
Now, it was up to Alessandro to buildd the MVP! But, he didn't know how to code.
(contd.)
In an attempt to figure it out, he started learning JavaScript.
During one such session of learning to buildd a multi-step form using JavaScript in 6 hours, Alessandro found the solution to his problems.
The top comment read: "Why not build it on Bubble in 5 minutes?"
(contd)
He started learning Bubble in Feb and by the end of April, their MVP was ready for launch!
NoCode was essentially magic!
- Insane learning curve!
- Fast development speed
- Flexibility to iterate and test
- Quick buildd-measure-learn cycle.
3/ FiveTeams' NoCode Tech Stack!
A) Bubble
Use Case ⇒ The entire marketplace frontend and backend was built on Bubble.
- Buildd varied applications using their workflows and database
- Self-sufficient
- Removes the dependency
Alternatives ⇒ Adalo, Glide
(contd.)
B) Webflow
Use Case ⇒ Webflow handles their entire content management.
- Responsive web design, page speed and core web vitals
- Create fully customizable, static pages
- If your main traffic channel is SEO, you can use Webflow's CMS to create and manage your content
(contd)
C) Twilio
Use Case ⇒ Twilio is essentially used to send SMS to users and clients.
They proactively notify their client base when a recruiter reaches out or if the user has a new offer.
It offers data-driven customer engagement at scale.
(contd.)
D) Postmark
Use Case ⇒ This is used to send transactional emails.
- You can combine Postmark with Figma plugin and create awesome email templates.
- Doesn't use shared IPs. Meaning your emails are sent from a dedicated IP which makes the deliverability better.
(contd.)
E) Algolia
Use Case ⇒ This is used for data indexing and search. It performs well for complex searches of large datasets.
(contd.)
6) Zapier
Use Case ⇒ This is used to automate all tasks across different tools.
- Automate recurring manual tasks.
- Store data in CRM, send automated emails, integrate two or more tools and create workflows.
- Very intuitive to use. But, it is somewhat expensive.
(contd.)
7) Stripe
Use Case ⇒ Stripe was used to handle all payments and transactions on the platform.
Although, now as their ticket size has increased, they have moved away from using the app entirely.
Instead, they send invoices manually now.
4/ Impact of using NoCode
NoCode is faster, cheaper and the most customer-centric form of product development.
Founder can
- Market the product faster
- Collect feedback faster
- And, reach PMF much faster with iteration
(contd.)
A functioning product can be monetized quickly. That means less dependency on external funding.
And, since NoCode tools are inexpensive, you can spend the saved money elsewhere.
But, let's look at some numbers to really understand the impact!
(contd.)
1. Revenue = 100,000+ & profitable within a year!
2. Development Time = Learning to building ⇒ 2.5 months
3. Tech Stack cost = $500/month
4. Traditional development cost = $800K to 1M ⇒ saved 95% of the cost!
5. Organic Traffic = 30K
5/ The downside
Bubble has 2 major issues:
a) Its UI doesn't look great on mobile as on desktop. S the team had to buildd a different version for mobile
b) It's quite hard to find good Bubble developers compared to web developers.
(contd.)
But, the silver lining is that most NoCode tools are at a very nascent stage.
Some are less than a few years old. Since the space is super new, it will only get better as time passes.
For example, the first problem is remedied by Bubble's new responsive engine.
(contd.)
More importantly, with NoCode a builder can be a product owner, product manager & developer all in one.
If you choose to invest several months learning a NoCode tool, you'll be able to bring your ideas to life.
The independence of buildd-ing is the true gift!
