Marcus Aurelius was the most powerful man on Earth:
- Emperor of Rome
- Stoic philosopher
- All-around badass MFer
Want to be unstoppable?
πŸ‘‡ Here are his 7 best Stoic lessons to improve your life:
Marcus Aurelius wrote his "Meditations" as a source for his own guidance and self-improvement.
They were never even intended to be published. 🀫
Let's take a look:
πŸ“œ Outside forces can't hurt you
Actual pain is short-lived.
It's emotions like anger and grief that do the real harm.
Remember:
What others do doesn't upset you,
your perception of what others do upsets you.
Focus on what you can control β€” let go of the rest.
πŸ“œ Stop worrying about what other people think
We lose sleep over the opinions of people we don't even like.
If someone treats you badly.
Would you want that person in your corner anyway?
As Marcus Aurelius would say (probably):
"fuck 'em"
πŸ“œ Good thoughts = good life
You could have the world's most expensive camera.
If the lens is broken,
the pictures will still look like shit.
Fix your lens with:
- Gratitude
- Meditation
- Positive self-talk
πŸ“œ Actions speak louder than words
We all know that person.
They talk a big game, but their actions don't align.
Don't be that person.
Stop making hollow promises.
Start taking action.
Be the best version of yourself.
πŸ“œ A life of purpose is a life of peace
Aurelius believed that we all have a purpose.
A reason to get out of bed in the morning.
It is our duty to seek out this purpose, and carry it out to the best of our ability.
Only then will we attain peace.
πŸ“œ Gratitude is a superpower
Aurelius figured this out nearly 2,000 years ago.
Guess what?
It's more relevant today than ever.
We live in a culture of "more".
get shiny new thing --> get bored --> repeat
Practice gratitude to fall in love with what you ALREADY HAVE.
πŸ“œ The greatest motivator of life is death
Remember death, but don't fear it.
Keep mortality in mind, but don't obsess over it.
We are all going to die someday.
Use this knowledge to set your priorities, and grab life by the balls.
TL;DR
β€’ Good thoughts = good life
β€’ Gratitude is a superpower
β€’ Outside forces can't hurt you
β€’ A life of purpose is a life of peace
β€’ Actions speak louder than words
β€’ The greatest motivator of life is death
β€’ Stop worrying about what other people think
