Istihlal: the act of making Halal, what Allah made haram can take a person outside of Islam.
Sinning: to act upon one’s desires in a sinful way is harmful and punishable by Allah. It must be repented from, but does not take a person outside of Islam.
Desires: having Haram desires and inclinations but not acting on them is not sinful. Although it can be caused by sin and can lead to sin, and certainly corrupts the heart if a person dwells on those desires and seeks not to move away from them.
Major sins do not take a person outside of the fold of Islam. (Except for Shirk).
But committing major sins and then claiming something that is haram by consensus of the scholars, is in fact not haram, that is what endangers a persons Islam.
Better to be a sinner who realises he is sinning, hides it and wants to rectify oneself, than to be an arrogant sinner who denies Allah’s laws and seeks to twist and change Allah’s words, rejecting their agreed upon meaning.
The consensus of the scholars of Islam is binding.
Even better, to repent from that sin and flee from it, or not to act on it in the first place by fighting one’s desires.
Our society encourages us to indulge in our whims and desires. To act upon our impulses, to be voyeuristic and pleasure-seeking.
Islam teaches the opposite.
Once you realise this, matters become easier:
Everything Allah has forbidden, is filthy and harmful to you or society in some way.
Everything Allah has commanded is pure and good for you or society in some way.
Don’t learn things the hard way, don’t live a life of depravity…
Shaitan promised that he would cause the downfall of the children of Adam - by any means necessary.
He uses our own minds to trick us, to tempt us, to make what is evil seem harmless and what is ugly seem beautiful.
That is why Allah sent us the Qur’an and Sunnah as anchors.
Hold on firmly to the rope of Allah.
Do not let go, even though the chatter around you encourages you to.
The end success is for those who fear Allah - who are conscious of Allah.
