A lot of people see Elon Musk as the savior of humanity.
I don’t.
Here are 7 facts about him that could get me banned from Twitter:
1. He called a hero a "pedo guy"
In July 2018, 12 young boys and their soccer coach went missing inside a flooded cave complex in northern Thailand.
Musk offered a mini-submarine built by his team to help with the rescue.
Vernon Unsworth, one of the skilled divers that helped save the kids, thought the idea was foolish and called it a "PR stunt".
Scientists proved him right.
Musk’s ego couldn’t handle this so he called Vernon a "pedo guy" on Twitter.
2. The "80-hour work-week"
Musk is well-known for being a workaholic and supposedly worked even more than 120 hours per week.
His teams regularly pull in 100-hour weeks.
7 days ago, he said he expected Twitter employees to work 80-hours per week.
After firing half the staff.
3. The "broke story"
He said that when he started Zip2 in 95, he had over $100k of student debt, a computer he built himself, and a few K in his pocket.
In reality, he was living off his father's money, who used to own an emerald mine and also invested 28K in Zip2.
4. The "Founder" stories
Everyone thinks he was one of the founders of PayPal and Tesla.
In reality, PayPal is the successor of a company originally named Confinity, founded in 1998 by Max Levchin, Peter Thiel, and Luke Nosek.
On Tesla's official website it says: Elon Musk co-founded and leads Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink and The Boring Company.
Actually, the company was registered in 2003 by Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning.
Musk became the largest shareholder by investing 6.5 million 6 months later.
5. Lying about his credentials
He claims to have:
• started a Ph.D. at Stanford - false
• a degree in Physics from Penn - false
• a degree in Computational Physics from Penn - doesn't exist
Here are the undeniable details of the story:
6. Smoking pot at Joe Rogan
This was quite controversial, as weed is not legal on a federal level.
It wouldn't have been more than a PR attempt to attract millennials…
Until he allegedly dismissed employees for testing positive for THC.
That's a bit ironic, right?
7. On government subsidies
in 2021, Musk said that the U.S. should “get rid of all” federal subsidies: “Just delete them all,”
It’s an interesting statement, considering how much money his companies got from the US government over the years.
And we’re not talking thousands of dollars but:
- $2.89 billion contract with NASA in April 2021
- $15 million in economic development subsidies for SpaceX
- $1.3 billion in tax breaks and other incentives for a new Tesla factory
That’s a lot of money.
