The “Patomskiy Crater” in Siberia, Russia. Nobody knows what it is.
Located in the remote Patom Highlands, the mound is made of shattered limestone. Its base diameter is about 520 ft and its height about 130 ft. Inside of the ring shaped crown is a smaller mound with a height of about 39 ft. Apparently it’s been known to change shape over time.
The indigenous Yakut people called the crater “Fire Eagle’s Nest” and believe the area holds bad energy. In 2005 during the first significant research expedition the lead researcher died on the way out to the site.
The Fire Eagle was a giant double headed bird deity, large enough to devour 3 cows at a time. Some versions of the story say that he was struck down as punishment for devouring everything. Their story also includes a great flood. 🤔
Ancient myths about double headed eagles?
The first picture of Patomskiy crater taken in 1971.
Today, it just happens to be at the edge of a blurry section on Google Earth.
