Curious Case of a ~1500 yrs Old Vishnu Temple Site in Central India, and a "Mysterious Beared Figure" [THREAD]
In June 2019, an Excavation of a Temple Site was stopped by ASI after they discovered the Engraving of a "Mysterious Beared skull cap wearing Figure" on one of the Temple Bricks
The excavation was taking place in A remote place called Nagwa of Singrauli district. This is the mysterious engraving.
ASI originally started to dig at the site in hope of finding a Temple of Lord Vishnu, which they did find. A rock cut murti of God Vishnu was also found. Interestingly, this Murti has Shankha and Chakra, but No Gada (mace) or padma (lotus).
A drum is tied to the waist of God Vishnu and his left hand appears to be playing it. This might indicate the prevalence of "Matta - Mayuri" sect/cult of worship. Lord Vishnu is also seen as holding a Grapefruit in other hand.
This is probably the Oldest example of a such sculpture (holding grapefruit). A Brick was also found with Letters "Ra" and "La" in Brahmi Script, thereby stretching the timeline back to ~1900-2000 yrs Old
The excavation was stopped because certain officers in ASI felt "Uneasy" about the Engraving. [END OF THREAD]
