The myth of Sisyphus.
Philosophy on the purpose of life.
One of the great ancient myths is that of Sisyphus.
This man, prepared to do anything to live his destiny as he wanted.
Who by his cunning will manage to defy Zeus and Hades.
And in the punishment he received, many lessons of life.
In the city of Corynth reigned one of the most intelligent men.
Clever but far from being wise: Sisyphus
Hard in a small thread to go into the details of the story.
What we must remember is that he made Zeus angry.
So angry that he sent death himself to take Sisyphus' soul.
Death soon appears before him, but Sisyphus, cunningly flattered it.
Death lowered his guard and accepted Sisyphus' gifts and found himself chained.
Sisyphus fled and deceives death.
As death was chained, nobody would die anymore.
The kingdom of the dead was no longer functioning.
Ares, furious that his wars were no longer killing anyone, went to Corynthe to free Thanatos.
Sisyphus, aware that death was looking for him again, warned his wife that he was going to die and above all, not to perform any funeral rites on his body.
Thanatos took the life of Sisyphus who now appears in the realm of the dead.
He presents himself to Hades and begins his new stratagem.
"My wife did not honor my body.
She threw away my corpse like a dog's.
Let me return to earth one day to take my revenge.
And I will come back."
Sisyphus returned to Corinth and fled
He had cheated death...
Again
He lived a long, peaceful and happy life, hidden from those who were furiously searching for him.
When he was old, death finally came to him.
And this time, no trick.
Death took him.
An exemplary punishment was needed for this man.
It was decided that he would push a gigantic stone.
All along a steep cliff.
But every time he got close to the top.
The stone would come down and Sisyphus would have to start his terrible torment again... eternally.
What can we learn from the myth of Sssyphus?
Put yourself in the shoes of Sisyphus.
You have a task.
You can't escape it.
And whether you like it or not, you have to do it.
You know very well that the ball is going to drop, but you have no choice.
What to do?
It is possible to hate every second of this torment.
To curse your condition.
To curse the reasons that pushed you to live this one.
The task will be difficult.
The rock is heavy.
The mountain too long.
The curved spine.
The torment will be endless.
Sisyphus may tell himself that the task is too difficult.
Put an end to his torments.
But would this man who has so much audacity give up so easily?
It would be to admit his defeat and his weakness.
Sisyphus could also raise his head.
Take a deep breath.
Observe the landscape.
Enjoy the sunrise.
Appreciate the fact that the more he pushes that ball, the stronger he gets.
And even though it's absurd to keep pushing, appreciate the journey.
If Sisyphus in his torment, manages to turn his pain into happiness, then, once again, he would win against those who decided his fate.
He will manage to transform a destiny of pain into a bearable journey.
Life sometime, can feel pointless.
After all, the only thing we know for sure is that we will die.
But I think life is far from being meaningless.
We are all musical notes that must find our place on
the great score of the universe.
In the wrong place, our Sisyphus' work will be difficult and painful.
In the right place, this work will be simple, happy, in harmony with what surrounds us and it is with joy that we will climb the slope indefinitely.
It is now your turn to interpret the myth of Sisyphus.
