Soldiers aren’t trained to think, have ideas or take initiatives. And that’s why it takes a few months to train soldiers. Standard training of an infantryman is 3 months and he’s good to go. Spends his first weeks learning how to march(cohesion) and then learning how to shoot.
But before that, he’s subjected to a very physical and psychological intensive process which prepares him for the unique demands of the military. Which is to obey no questions asked. When you’re ordered to shoot, you simply shoot.
And that’s why you don’t see soldiers tried for
War crimes, it’s always the officer who gives the orders. He’s the one responsible.
The dehumanizing process they go through leaves a seed of worthlessness etched in their psych.
If you want people to obey no questions asked, you have to make them believe they’re worthless, that
The military gave them their worth, that they’re lucky to wear these uniforms. And so they must obey.
They don’t admit it, but patriotism comes much later when they’re done psychologically conditioning recruits to what they want.
Patriotism would hardly motivate you to throw
Yourself into the line of fire for your country, but psychological conditioning would do that. It’s that same conditioning that disallows you to point a gun at your superior officer, much less shoot. Soldiers would mutiny of course, they’ll shoot wildly in the air, but they won’t
Point a gun to a superior officer and shoot. Hardly does it happen. In fact they won’t even raise a hand to assault an officer.
The life of an officer is sacred in the military. Millions are spent to train and position you for leadership. So your loss is unacceptable.
That’s also why a thousand soldiers aren’t worth the life of a single officer.
That dehumanizing training also strips a recruit of self worth. Deep down you’re made to believe you’re nothing. So even when you see a difference in how an officer and you are treated, you don’t
Complain. Only thing a soldier does at an officers mess is to clean and serve. Ask him to sit on the table of officers and he wouldn’t. Because he believes they’re better than him. Makes it easier to obey when you believe those giving orders are better than you.
Officers uniforms are also better, Infact there’s a special training for etiquettes, diplomacy and protocol given to officers. Very few people are aware that when a ship makes port at another country, that ship is obliged to hold a party.
A military attaché also gets regular
Invites to functions and events. You need training for this. Soldiers don’t have this type of training, there’s no time to even give it.
So while you’re bunked In a room, the most junior officer gets a whole room to himself. If you see officers sharing a room, then it’s on a ship
Or one special circumstance.
To maintain this dichotomy the rule says when you try to mutiny, you die. This is very important to forestall any internal insurrection or breakdown of law and order and chain of command.
Mutiny is when a soldier refuses to obey a lawfully given order
Lawful is your commanding officer. He is the law as far as you’re concerned & your standard of morality. Meaning you’re not allowed to have any moral convictions. You’re only trained to obey and shoot. So you leave moral dilemmas to officers who are trained for that.
Also you never see soldiers staging coups. Has never happened and would never happen, no matter how many years you’ve spent in the military, you’re simply not eligible nor equipped because you don’t hold a command position.
The entire life of a soldier resolves around taking orders. You’re not bothered about career advancement or material gains. And that’s why you’re also subjected to a regimental life.
Your sole focus is the survival of the state, in theory that is.
Asked a friend what his soldiers thought about him.
“Soldiers don’t have opinions”. Was all he said.
