📌 A notoriously difficult interview question:
"What is your weakness?"
How not to mess up the answer:
The way you answer this question can reveal important things about you:
- You are honest
- You are self-aware
- You have a growth mindset
Don't even try fake it. State a real weakness, but emphasize how you work to overcome it.
Don't say:
- I am not good with people
- I don't have good attention to detail
- I am bad at managing deadlines
- Or anything that's a match for job description
Don't shoot yourself in the foot by showing that you're not competent enough for the position.
Try this template:
1. I am... (strength)
2. However, it can sometimes... (weakness)
3. I do ... to fix it (strength)
Example 👇
1. I take a lot of pride in my work.
2. That's why it's sometimes hard for me to admit I'm stuck and ask for help.
3. I realize that a more effective way of working would be to ask colleagues for help or guidance.
I do ... to improve in this area...
So, to recap:
- Don't fake it, be yourself
- Mention "acceptable" weakness
- Explain how you work to overcome it
Even better if you can give a specific example from your past experience.
Thanks for reading! ❤️
