THE PROBLEM WITH MICROWAVES
How a Kitchen Appliance Might Be Destroying Nutrients, Damaging Your Eyes & Accelerating Cancer
A Thread ⚠️
You know what? Most of us have NO CLUE how a microwave even works
We marvel at how fast it gets the job done without much questioning
Have you ever thought about what makes it so unique?
Well, it doesn't warm food with external heat
While conventional heating involves a heat source, with the flame being a pioneer, a microwave is essentially just a cage that drops EMF bombs on your food
It shoots these 'micro' waves that bounce around the box and crash into food
It's this friction between molecules that heats food up unevenly
Now that we know how it works, I'll go into the juicy, controversial points
See, this debate is one that's been around for several decades now
On one camp you have microwave lovers who claim it's completely safe and no more dangerous than an oven
On the other, you have people who will refuse to eat anything from a microwave
My stance?
It was never meant to be in our kitchens. It's a black box EMF hailstorm machine. We never should've put these ugly black boxes in every home.
That being said, I can understand how some have become so reliant on the convenience
While the literature on microwaves isn't extensive, I'll go through some of the major talking points before giving you Actionable Advice and how you can get the most Reward with minimal Risk
I mean, that's the name of the game isn't it?
1. NUTRITIONAL DESTRUCTION
The fundamental way a microwave works is through intermolecular friction
Some claim that this destroys surrounding molecules and deforms the food itself
To this day we don't know if any harmful by-products are created from this process
Microwaves were found to reduce the phytochemicals present in vegetables, making them less bioavailable

Mothers are also warned to avoid heating breast milk with a microwave
Not only does it do so unevenly, but nutrients are lost in the process
This screenshot is directly from the CDC
Microwaves destroy the anti-infective properties of human breast milk
Anti-infective properties are protective factors designed to protect the infant against infection and increase the odds of survival

However, we have to acknowledge that there are other studies that claim nutritional value is retained or that there was no difference from using microwaves
This is why there's so much debate surrounding the topic
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov.
I can't lie though, from my experience microwaved food tastes different. Void of Life. It just doesn't taste as good as something cooked on a pan.
Then again, not all foods are the same. Some you absorb more nutrients raw, others when they're slow cooked.
A Very Nuanced Topic.
2. DAMAGES YOUR EYES
If you have, or are prone to any type of eye condition, you never want to be in the presence of a microwave when it's on
They've been linked with the formation of cataracts. The cornea is very sensitive.
sciencedirect.com.
3. RADIATION SCARES
Microwaves are a form of non-ionizing radiation, meaning they don't emit radiation strong enough to alter DNA
That being said, there's a reason why regulatory bodies set a safe limit, and requires there to be protective seals & mechanisms in place
You don't want to be near a microwave when it's being used
Especially if you're someone who protects themselves against the harms of EMFs in general
Why would you avoid using AirPods but nuke your foods in an EMF bomb?
4. INCREASES FREE RADICALS
"Exposure to microwave radiation 2h a day for 35d can potentially cause histopathology and oxidative changes in rats. These results indicate possible implications of such exposure on human health."
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
5. ACCELERATES CANCER
"Model studies in rodents unveiled a significant increase in carcinogenesis after 17-24 months of MW exposure both in tumor-prone and intact animals."
This applies to all types of EMFs. We should reduce exposure as much as we can.
pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov
6. BACTERIA & DISEASES
Using a microwave as your predominant method of cooking is dangerous.
The uneven nature of how it cooks food means there could be cold spots β€” potential hubs of bacteria & illness that aren't killed compared to conventional cooking processes.
The authors conclude that " heating pre-cooked chicken by microwaves to internal temperatures up to 84 Β°C (183F) is not adequate to eliminate the possibility of C. perfringens food poisoning.

Disclaimer: Please don’t freak out and start going crazy on everyone with a microwave in their home. Just understand that it’s not as harmless as most of us think.
I mean intuitively, just think about it. It’s a black box in your kitchen that shoots EMFS in your food. It’s got a black mesh on the door for a reason.
And we didn't even talk about how most people use it these days. They put food in a plastic container and nuke it straight from the refrigerator.
When you heat anything with plastic, you're leaching BPA / BPS particles into your food.
P.S. BPA-Free doesn't mean anything πŸ‘‡
Actionable Advice: Avoid using microwaves as your CORE kitchen appliance
Sure, use it from time to time to heat food when you're in a pinch
Just make sure you:
β€’Β Don't use plastic (use glass)
β€’Β Don't stand close to it
Me personally? I believe there's NO REASON to have a microwave in the kitchen.
Just use a toaster oven or an air fryer for heating small portions of food. Use your oven or a skillet for bigger portions.

There has been some claims that microwaved water decreases the odds of a plant surviving
On the surface, it seems like a plausible claim, given how plants have shown to grow differently to things like music
While there hasn’t been any scientific experiments done to prove the hypothesis, the mythbusters tested it and found that the microwaved water plants actually grew larger.
Maybe try it at home and let me know?

Then again, they used tap water as the control. I wonder if there would be a difference if they used properly structured, spring water.
Nevertheless, I find it absurd why you'd use a microwave to heat water at all. Please use a kettle instead of nuking your water. πŸ˜‚πŸ₯‚
On EMFs:
@mattizzo finds that the microwave gives off EMF even when it’s β€œswitched off”
When it’s switched on, readings go beyond what the device could measure
Food for thought.
