OH YES, my friends. u know we have to take it there
2 advent releases in 1 night. a man asked me to make this, and it took like 6x longer than i expected (story of my life). check it:
the american orthodox saints lineage print
let me tell you about it.
owen-cyclops.myshopify.com
the concept for this one was that a man saw my st. herman of alaska image, and wanted something in a similar style, but showing the lineage of two american orthodox figures (thus representing the influence on american orthodoxy as a whole) - one side russian, the other greek:
after getting the blessing of his bishop, we mapped it out as:
on the left, you can see st. herman of alaska, over st. john of shanghai and san francisco, over seraphim rose (the russian side).
on the right: mt athos, over st. joseph the hesychast, over elder ephraim of arizona
obviously i read their life stories, and pulled out details or things that seemed especially significant. i also mapped out how they were related and what the timeframes were, just so I would know when I was weaving it all together (just made this chart for myself).
if youre familiar with me, you know seraphim rose had a big influence on me. it was cool finally making an image of him - i had planned out a few over the last few years but never finalized them, so i channeled all that into this:
when things take a long time here, sometimes in retrospect its like we're waiting for a detail. originally, the mt. athos image wasnt exactly like this. i tried a few things. nothing fit. but then the guy i worked with sent me something that had a "many figures" design: perfect
this probably sounds funny but, seriously, one detail that has to be perfect here is the beards. if you think about it, its a huge part of their character - but everyones beard is different. they have to look perfect, without drawing too much attention to themselves: [...]
i wouldnt use the word 'intimidated' but i was... thinking about it. once i did st. hermans i knew it would go perfectly. i just let it happen. i feel like thats when i got the 'clear' to finish the rest of the image, and just did all the others in one go:
i think what im getting at is the style was just 'there' for this one. i just let it happen.
these are all real places. ill post more about that during the week.
last thing ill note here tonight, one detail im extremely pleased with is the border. the concept here was rivers, passing the torch, things going from one generation to the next: so i have these cups that are catching, retaining, and then passing on (like us, teachers, lineage):
happened to find these two pic so, here are some things i looked at while working on this. st. john maximovitch is st. john of shanghai and SF, so, if u have no idea what im talking about rn (thats cool) the right image is the bottom left guy talking about the middle left guy
this one comes red (warm) or blue (cool). i really like both, just depends on the vibe. its 12 x 18, i included my guitar in the last pic for scale. it comes unframed (if you want to get a Nice[tm] frame in whatever style or let someone else decide the vibe) or framed, in wood:
yes. heres the link:

ill post more about this one during the week, all the places and details are real and relevant - but for now, it is thundering, i must gather... my dog (romans 8:22)
