I went to this last night, what I took from is a cautionary tale about being in an echo chamber and not being on Twitter “because it's full of lefties”. It also spoke to a larger truth as to why the government has had so little effective opposition from the right.

There was a who's who, from what I deem the "anti woke-sphere", plenty of SDP types, the editor of Conservative Woman, and it was filled to the rafters with the middle aged. I will say one thing for Rod he can pull in the crowds.
knew things were going to be off to a bad start when a noticeably portlier Rod stood up and said “I don't know why we got here”. Anyone looking for an understanding of how politicised charities or anti-discrimination legislation had their part to play would be disappointed.
What followed was an hour of the usual ‘woke’ madness, but there was nothing here that the “libs of TikTok” hasn't done already, birthing people, chest feeding and other boomer bait made an appearance, Rod knows his audience, and they were rolling in the aisles.
Full of his normal fuck you stridency, very little of what he said was dangerous, there was some mention of Grooming Gangs, but the focus fell on liberals turning a blind eye, likewise, when the census results came up focus was on, you guessed it, the UK being majority non-xian.
Like a lot of populist movements it almost revelled in its anti-intellectualism, the “metropolitan middle class” was a target for a lot of bashing, as were woke millennials and zoomers “moaning that they can't afford a flat in Mayfair”.
The last part of it seemed to be a hip-hop style beef with Suzanne Moore, what he said was true e.g. TERFs were all aboard the "8.30 to woke" until they realised they boarded an express - but tellingly this part of that all got least clapping suggest many were in attendance.
Then came the Q&A, alas I wasn't chosen, but the Conservative Woman editor stood up and started banging on about WEF. There was a lot of performative northern “We-rking Class” identity politics. Interestingly the audience was fairly “high status” lawyers, coppers etc.
Events like this are living proof that you have to engage with the discourse. They wouldn't admit it but if you took out the rhetoric, this could easily be a crowd of FBPErs moaning about Brexit.
Lots of activity, but not much accomplishment.
