Whether you're a...
- Content creator
- Copywriter
- Email marketer
- Facebook marketer
- Google marketer
- SEO specialist
- Etc
You need to grab attention fast with your ads, posts, and copy.
Here are 9 types of hooks that catch attention and stop the scroll:
🧵
1. Bold Claims
Bold claims often appeal to what people want and what they don’t want.
They also make people want to find out if you can back the claim up.
Example:
“How to make $30,000 per month with less than 5,000 followers:”
2. List Starters
Lists are easy to consume and people usually want to find out what’s on them.
If the topic is relevant to them, they should pay attention.
Example:
“9 types of hooks that catch attention and stop the scroll:”
3. Interesting Statistics
Specific statistics are solid interest-creators too.
That’s especially true when the topic is relevant to the audience.
Example:
“91% of content creators give up within 3 months of starting.”
4. Questions
People naturally want to answer questions.
If the question is relevant to them or creates emotion in them, it’s even more powerful.
Example:
“What is the key to social media success?”
5. Pain Points
Emotional pain is the strongest human emotion.
That’s why hitting pain points is one of the most effective hooking strategies.
“Getting ignored on social media hurts. A lot.”
6. Story Starters
Stories tend to create and hold interest better than descriptions.
That’s especially true when it’s about a topic that the reader is interested in.
Example:
“I went from 0 to 30,000 followers in 3 months.”
7. Pop Culture References
Dropping names tends to create interest.
This is even more effective when the name is someone in your niche.
Example:
“7 marketing strategies that you can steal from Steve Jobs:”
8. Proof
Showing proof of results is another good one.
You can use your results, your popularity, and the results/popularity of other people.
Example:
“I made $10 million for my clients on Black Friday.”
9. Combinations
As you’ve probably noticed in my examples, you don’t need to pick just one of these.
Instead, you can combine them.
Example of list + social proof:
“10 strategies I used to make $10 million for my clients on Black Friday:”
Here they are again:
1. Bold claims
2. List starters
3. Interesting statistics
4. Questions
5. Pain points
6. Story starters
7. Pop culture references
8. Proof
9. Combinations
Use one next time you write ad copy.
That's everything.
