One reason companies have internal legal depts is to shield communications behind attorney-client privilege. So if govt subpoenas you re election interference, you hold back emails with lawyer cc'd on them. But if you own Twitter, you can just waive privilege, put it out there.
So Vijaya Gadde wasn't just there as a censor - but as a lawyer to make sure that any communications concerning censorship conveyed "legal advice," and wouldn't be turned over in face of government investigation. But that's out the window now.
All large companies have this built-in protection. So keep this in mind if GOP Congress tries to get info from Facebook, Apple - whatever. They will never hand over the most sensitive stuff. They will provide a "privilege log" and explain that they've withheld it as 'privileged.'
