THE ART OF LISTENING
How to appear competent when speaking to The Elite
🧵THREAD
Step 1: Be quiet.
That's it really. I have no CLUE how people can overcomplicate this. Listening involves your ears, and then your brain. It does not involve your mouth, NOR anything else. Think of speaking, quiet. Opening your mouth, quiet. Got it?
Cont.
If you're vis-a-vis, be quiet. They are speaking, listen to the words, the phrases, construct the syntax and logic they are making.
They made a point, understand said point. They are transferring knowledge, accept their insights.
They are communicating; you are the other half.
A toddler can listen better, which is the point. Just nod along. Added, if you want to pay more attention, listen to the tone of their voice, it triggers a volume of emotions inside you. Feel what they are saying. Pathos.
Understand where they are coming from, why are they saying what they are saying. Who are they? What do they represent today? What are their credentials, what is the frame of this talk.
Bonus: If you want to show you are listening, nod.
That is it. 1 Be Quiet 2 Nod.
Read on.
You may want to throw in an affirmative SOUND: uhuh, mm, hmmmm, mmm, yeah, yes (already too much, you spoke tbh lol)
Affirming sounds show you are listening. That you're not a mute.
Cont.
If you're on the phone, you cant be completely quiet. Gotta time the affirmative sounds, very well. They speak. Listen. They speak. Affirm with a sound. They speak, on and on. Its like a beat of a song.
Hear the musicality of the conversations you're having.
Summarizing:
1 be quiet
2 nod
3 affirmative sounds, time them well and at the proper moment
