My Twitter feed today is filled with hot takes denouncing Russian opposition liberals. I share many of these sentiments. I have the scars from the "visa ban" debate from last summer to show it. Many Russian liberals denounced me as being "anti-Russian" back then. 1/ THREAD

As this debate continues, I have 3 requests. 1. Accept that people make mistakes and should be allowed forgiveness should they recognize their mistakes. And if they don't acknowledge mistakes, then no forgiveness.

2. Please avoid sweeping generalizations about whole categories of people. Not all Russian liberals think alike. Some are imperial. Some - @IlyaYashin - are about to go to jail for years because they opposed the war. That's real sacrifice; more than I or most others are doing. 2/

3. Any and every action that helps Putin is a bad action. Any! This is war. Keep focused on the real enemy. Don't get distracted. 3/ END THREAD
