Whoa! Ananda Coomaraswamy actually said this at Harvard in 1947? Wasn't aware.
Haven't come across these exact lines in the past although I have read similar lines from Coomaraswamy.

The 88yr old Wendell Berry cited this paragraph in his latest book in a long discussion on Work-Progress-American dream etc.
It's okay don't get worked up.
+
Wendell Berry isn't a Brahmin. Not even an Indian. Neither is Ananda Coomaraswamy. So they aren't talking about this to preserve their hegemony. This discourse is more philosophical.
+
Our man Steve Jobs also aspirationally stated the same.
+
"Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle"
+
It is only the "If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle" part of it is where Berry/Coomaraswamy and Jobs have a disagreement. Otherwise all of them understood "Work" as a concept the same way.
+
Berry and Coomaraswamy also have a few more things to say on changing nature of society and work.
That's okay. Don't be angry. You can always ignore and move on.
