1. At least 5 million people's data have been sold on the bot market to date, with around 50,000 of them being Malaysians, according to the world’s largest VPN service provider.
"This is a high number compared to other Asian countries," NordVPN said.
2. "Japan had 13,000 people affected, but the number of internet users is almost five times higher than Malaysia," it added.
It also reported India as the worst affected country, with around 600,000 users' data sold.
3. The research also uncovered 26.6 million stolen logins, including those from Google, Microsoft and Facebook.
It found 667 million cookies, 81,000 digital fingerprints, and 538,000 autofill forms.
4. “As long as the victim's device is infected by a bot, their information will always be updated,” NordVPN said.
“A simple password is no longer worth money to criminals when they can buy logins, cookies, and digital fingerprints in one click for just RM27.”
5. The firm has urged users to use antivirus software, password managers and file encryption tools to prevent hackers from infecting their personal devices and stealing their information.
