Opinion after reading missionary reports for 2 weeks.
At first the Baman being the teaching class they tried to employ him in their english missionary schools & as govt clerks but soon they realised the students were indirectly taught that to embrace the religion of

missionary was a disgraceful apostasy ; but they were also taught to dissemble in his presence, and pretend to believe the Xtian truths which in their hearts they actually
despised. Under such influences it could hardly be expected that many
of them would become Christians.

They realised this at the end of around 1890. Hence from 1900 they understood their mistake & u see the moves to give reservations though native kings or directly through British to the non Brahmins in the govt bodies.
They realised that giving english xtian

education to the Brahmin was not useful as he had taken up all govt places & was now creating nuisance for the British system trying to topple their govt. Hence the plan B was activated to deal with 2 problems.
1. Remove Bamans by giving reservations & stabilize the rule.

2. Educate Non Bamans in english education fill them as teacher/clerical staff under reservation, stabilize the govt & now try to christianize the thinking of others through them which they failed to do earlier by employing the Baman.

Any1 who thinks British were really concerned about the upliftment of Indian masses is dishonest person.
The observation might have flaws but a honest take to be frank.
They played an excellent game. A top notch one 👌🏾
