CTU @Aspira Business & Finance members hosted a Breakfast Tailgate/Walk-In today to demand staffing for special ed & bilingual students. The action is part of charter educators' efforts to bargain new contracts that provide students with supportive, safe, sustainable schools!
At YCLA, our members wore blue today to symbolize 'Tears for Unsustainable Schools'. Our unified demands call for adequate resources and staffing - particularly for shortfalls in SPED, ESL/Bilingual and wraparound services. #FairContractNow #SupportiveSafeSustainableSchools

This unified charter contract campaign seeks to raise standards across unionized schools run by charter operators. Our demands are simple: we’re fighting for supportive, safe, sustainable schools that center student needs.
That means creating school policies and structures that keep our students and staff physically and mentally safe, along with wages, benefits and working conditions that allow us to remain in our schools long-term instead of confronting massive annual staff turnover.
We're also pushing charter operators to recruit and retain more educators of color, to commit to diversifying staff, and to providing quality professional development on diversity/equity/inclusion training, culturally relevant curriculum, restorative justice, and more.
Our charter students are public school students, and our school communities deserve adequate resources and supports to meet students where they're at and help them grow and thrive. It's time for operators to step up and take responsibility for meeting our students' needs.
