There is a disconnect between the attack on farmers and the push for biofuel by the EU, which is also very polluting & studies have shown to have higher carbon footprint than fossil fuel. The EU wants to raise share of biofuel to 14% of total transport energy...
The attack on farmers is that they are the cause of global warming.
But if that is the case, how is growing food for fuel more climate friendly?
It doesn't make sense right??? So why promote food for fuel when u want to also shut down farmers?
Why are they going after:
"Farmers are a force of millions, some with small holdings that have been in families for generations, giving them an attachment to land β€”Β and occupation β€”Β that runs deeper than profit."
Farmers are the salt of the earth. They're going after them...
Urban people are consumers. Farmers actually produce.
We sit in cities, consume plastic wrapped food, and disconnected from nature, and now we're going after small holders?
Meanwhile, we want to promote MASSIVE SCALE FOOD FOR FUEL? I don't understand this.
Honestly, why is Europe burning coal, promote mass scale food for fuel policy, but going after small holders I do not understand.
It doesn't make sense. Food for fuels is very very environmentally devastating.
Btw, if you read George Orwell essays, he disdains city dwellers and show a lot of respect for farmers.
Farmers are not to be demonized and punished, especially small holders.
I mean, they are small holders. The little people. Not the government or big corporations.
I mean, small holding farming is not very profitable and farmers are losing money all the time. A lot of them quit and join the city.
This is the trend. We don't need to push them off the edge. They are at the edge.

Farming is hard and gritty work and frankly very difficult to make $. People don't do it to make money but because the work is rewarding, especially small holders.
U are connected to nature, a strong sense of purpose, etc.
Have u tried to grow your own food? It's not easy.
Life of a city dweller: Live in a flat/house, go to work in an office, eat packaged food, usually take-outs that are plastic intensive, go shopping for fun, buy loads of polyester clothes (oil derivative), consume, define ourselves by consumption. Signal our virtue w/ consumption
Here is a scientific paper that says biofuel is WORSE than gasoline:
