What a phrase!
"Obedience to the unenforceable"!
It might sound similar in practice to the D word to Hindus.
"Just in time, I have received from a friend the phrase "obedience to the unenforceable," which my friend attributes to Lord Fletcher Moulton, an English jurist"

"The "unenforceable" that must be obeyed is a body of ancient laws, inherited rather than legislated, originating in impulses of the heart, borne by traditions older than history: the trustworthiness and the trust, the kindnesses and mere decencies fundamental to community life"
+
""Love thy neighbor as thyself" is a law, a stay against disorder and ruin, unenforceable but calling out to be obeyed"
-Wendell Berry

I don't mind the Christian overtones. I am far more comfortable reading people who are open about their allegiance to a certain religion than those who claim to be broadminded and owe allegiance to no religion and hence are objective and all embracing!
