Here is a new study on the relationship between testosterone, cortisol, and crime. ๐Ÿงต
Up to this point, not much research has actually been done linking testosterone to criminal behavior.
A lot is old.
And not all of the research has found a relationship between the two.
Additionally, when relationships have been found they have not been especially strong.
The relationship with cortisol seems even less clear, with both high and low levels of cortisol being linked with antisocial behavior.
Only two studies before this one have examined the interaction between testosterone and cortisol.
This study found that there was a relationship between testosterone and violent/impulsive crime.
There was no relationship between cortisol and violent crime, nor was there an interaction effect of testosterone and cortisol predicting violent crime.
There was no main effect of testosterone or cortisol on income-generating crime.
There was an interaction between testosterone and cortisol for income-generating crime.
The T/crime association depended on cortisol level for these crimes.
