Lots of talk about Mbappe and how to stop him etc ahead of England vs France. Very often people forget the idea that if you focus so much on the threats of one player with double teaming etc you are left exposed by the threats of other quality players that particular team has.

Mbappe is obviously a world class talent and England have to think about closing down quicker, perhaps Henderson covering more often and staying closer to Walker on the right hand side. But I think England need to stay focused on the game as a whole.

Games are very often not determined by one sole player. There should be a lot of optimism for England tomorrow. France haven’t kept a clean sheet against Denmark, Australia, Tunisia and Poland + England are the top scorers at this WC. Don’t just get drawn into Mbappe vs Walker.

Similarly France have the likes of Giroud, Griezmann, Dembele etc. There’s a lot to discuss but England shouldn’t get drawn into this narrative that it’s all about Mbappe. This is a team game and leaving other areas of the pitch too exposed is dangerous.
