The Twitter Files really bring home that identifying any content that’s counter-narrative as ‘misinformation’ or ‘disinformation’ is the way agents of the state or deep state (and their allies or soon to be bosses) get social media companies to remove it.
This is currently the greatest threat to free speech we face — and the Online Safety Bill will make it worse because it will empower Ofcom to fine social media companies up to 10% of their annual global turnover if they don’t enforce their terms of service — and we now know those
companies will have to include a commitment to removing ‘misinformation’ or ‘disinformation’ to comply with the EU’s Digital Services Act.
Once the OSB has been enacted, those companies will immediately remove content flagged up to them as ‘misinformation’ or ‘disinformation’, particularly by the DCMS Counter-Disinformation Unit and the Cross-Whitehall Disinformation Unit, for fear of being given a large fine by
Ofcom, whose Chair and Board are appointed by DCMS. In this way, the OSB will grant the government of the day — and Whitehall officials — even more power to force social media companies to remove content that challenges its policies, whether on EDI, climate change or
public health. (They already have this power and exercised it extensively during the pandemic.)
And not just the state and the deep state but the army of gatekeepers employed in the private sector and third sector — who will be deluging Ofcom with complaints and demanding it remove ‘misinformation’ and ‘disinformation’ — who share the same policy agenda.
Under the guise of protecting people from ‘harm’ and defending the ‘integrity’ of democracy, the global progressive elite is rapidly putting legal and regulatory tools in place to enable it to suppress dissent. /ENDS
