How hard does Jeff Bezos work?
Online articles say 6-8 hours per day.
My napkin maths shows it's 244 million hours a day.
Here's the breakdown:
Let's re-define the metagame:
1. Blue pill - How many hours you work
2. Red pill - How many hours infinite tools work for you
The education system should be rebuilt around moving our minds from finite tools (manual work) to infinite tools (delegation, code, marketing, media)
Infinite Tool 1: Delegation
Jeff has ∼1.6 million people who work for Amazon.
If they all work 8h per day on average, that's 12.8 million hours of work.
Infinite Tool 2: Code & Robotics
Amazon's warehouses have 500,000 roaming factory robots.
AWS has ∼1.8 million servers.
They all work 24-7 for him.
That's 55 million hours of work per day.
Infinite Tool 3: Marketing
Amazon spends ∼$46 million per day on marketing
Assume it costs him ∼$20 to reach 1000 people, he's receiving 2.3 billion impressions per day
If he was to knock on doors, he could reach 240 people per day
That's ∼95 million hours of door knocking
Ininite Tool 4: Media
Twitch gets 71 million hours of content viewed every day.
Amazon prime video has 117 million subscribers - if 10% watch 1 hour per day, that's ∼11 million of hours content viewed every day.
That's only 82 million hours of storytelling in person.
Scoreboard:
If you were to work 244 million hours today - or 27,853 years - you will outwork Jeff Bezos.
The beauty of the Bezos napkin maths isn't to take these numbers literally.
It's to visualize the power of infinite tools.
If you use "leverage", it goes over most people's heads.
If you use napkin maths, it clicks.
It's just basic marketing.
The education system is teaching people how to ride horses -- and then throws them out in the real world against Bugatti's.
