Were Bale, Benzema & Cristiano ever close to Messi, Suarez & Neymar in terms of quality? 🔥
Two legendary trios loved by two sets of rival fans. Players that will go down in history. Still, if you compare the trios, it’s clear that one is more superior than the other. It’s very logical.
However, what’s not logical, is the arguments fans use to advocate why one trio is better than the other. Madrid fans argue for BBC using their three Champions League trophies. In return, Barca fans refer to MSN’s treble. A never ending debate.
It doesn’t have to be though. By using team trophies to make a case for your preferred trio, you are using arguments that are flawed. Why? Because you ignore the other eight players on the pitch. Players who helped win the trophies.
The only way to properly asses the trios is by looking at the player profiles, how they complemented each other, and the numbers they produced (14/15 season - 16/17 season).
Messi & Ronaldo were the most reliable goal scorers during this period. At the same time, Messi was by far the best playmaker in the world. He had everything - passing, dribbling, vision… Now, Neymar was also a creator on the ball. A world class one.
In fact, Neymar was more creative than any player in the BBC trio. MSN had the two best creators, and they played with a pure striker who hit Messi/Ronaldo numbers in front of goal. In the 15/16 season, Suarez scored 59 goals in all tournaments. More than Messi & Ronaldo.
The numbers I will present reflect how Messi, Neymar and Suarez complemented each other. High quality individuals who strengthen each other through their presence on the field. Complete players - a complete trio.
14/15 - 16/17 season.
⭐️ MSN:
Goals: 364
Assists: 171
⭐️ BBC:
Goals: 268
Assists: 102.
The Barca trio scored more goals and registered more assists in every season they played together.
Of course, goals and assists do not tell the full story. At the same time, if we consider other player stats, such as chances created, progressive actions, passes completed, you would see that MSN was even more superior.
