Since there is some interest, a ๐Ÿงต listing a few books/papers on (mostly international) macro with a historical bent that I enjoyed reading.
Classic book by @B_Eichengreen on the history of international capital flows, a must read.
Temin and Vines mixing Keynes, Great Depression and Great Recession.
Hard to pick a single book on the Great Recession, so let me go with these three by @AtifRMian & @profsufi,
@paulkrugman and @adam_tooze
Amazing book on the 1992 exchange rate mechanism crisis by @willem_buiter, Corsetti and Pesenti. I think it's very connected to the current euro area situation, but more on this in a few months.
Another paper by Sachs, this one on the international dimension of the 1980s disinflation. Some striking parallels with the current debate nber.org
Insightful perspective on macro policies, distribution and global imbalances by @michaelxpettis and
@M_C_Klein
Monetary policy without (much of an) interest rate policy. Great book by @MonnetEric on monetary policy in postwar Europe
Another classic on the Great Depression, putting international aspects at the forefront. A bit cryptic, but worth reading.
Plenty more that I should add, but let me stop here for now.
