"In his introduction to Liberalism, Community, and Culture, liberal philosopher Will Kymlicka (1989) confessed that the communitarian critics of liberalism have had a discomforting effect on him"
+
"He surmised that liberalism has not paid sufficient attention to the importance of belonging to specific communities and cultures. Kymlicka conceded the obvious: individuals are nourished in communities"
"individuals are nourished in communities".. important line!
+
"From that platitude, he concluded that groups should have rights, which include a positive effort on behalf of the state to assist them in maintaining and preserving their distinctive cultures, .."
+
"even when the goals and ideals of that culture are at odds with liberal goals and ideals..
Kymlicka maintained that these cultures should be supported, not for the sake of the groups themselves but for the sake of the flourishing of individuals"
+
"In this way, communitarianism penetrated the heart of liberalism, and group rights entered the liberal lexicon.
As a result, a new multiculturalism was born"
+
"The concept of rights was devised to protect individuals from the oppressions of society and its endless demand for conformity"
This disdain is something even a lot of 'Hindu' liberals share. Even they believe liberal state needs to constantly police evil religion.
+
"The new multiculturalism allows the group to usurp the concept of rights and use it against the individualβ€”all in the name of freedom of religion"
Lot of 'Hindu' Liberals wish to cleanse Hinduism of everything that is against the individual.. individual's whims and fancies..
+
"Surely, the children oppressed by the religions of their parents are not free.. they are not free to learn to think and choose their religious affiliation when they reach the age of maturity and can make an intelligent choice"
This is classic "Life of Pi" Liberalism!
+
"This is the very least that the liberal state owes its children"
This is so telling on how the liberal mind operates. State exists to defend individual against oppressive group tyranny.. group includes religion and it's associated identities.. this is the liberal credo..

Hindus don't seem to have a great understanding of this problem based on what i see in public discourse. Many don't even consider this as a problem and call this progress. Some of them are on the non-left Hindu(tva) side as well.
