Most of my job is actually being a content manager/strategist.
I don't have this title on paper but that's what I do.
New writers always repeat the same mistakes.
Let's see the top 10 mistakes and how to fix them. ๐Ÿงต
1. Repeating the same subject.
Use pronouns, synonyms, and change the syntax.
If you always start with the same subject it looks like a grocery list.
2. Lack of personal opinions and insights.
I don't care about facts because they don't create a competitive advantage.
Adding unique details is what makes a difference.
And that's why you want to hire experts rather than newbies.
3. Crazy prices as a total beginner.
Like c'mon, there are novice writers asking for as much as $0.5/word.
There are benchmarks and industry data, why should I pay more if the quality is bad?
4. Stuffing keywords and words because "SEO".
This is the second biggest red flag ever.
Never ever attempt this.
It means you have no clue about organic content.
5. Bad flow.
Writing grocery lists and having a bad tempo.
Super short or long periods are hard to digest, especially in succession.
That's why you should change the rhythm.
6. Spinning/Paraphrasing content.
That's not being a writer and this is 100% fraud.
This is the 1st red flag and I'd immediately fire them.
I can't even consider this a writing mistake because it's plagiarism.
7. Be vague or using banned words like "etc.".
You can't write this stuff if you want to be taken seriously.
Shitposting on Twitter is one thing, writing and being paid is another.
Always be detailed.
Tall? How tall? 1.75m?
8. Writing terrible introductions.
The main hook of an article and where you should place clear sentences and entities.
E.g. in article about best laptops for college, you could address the most common pain points of students or parents choosing a laptop
9. Writing terrible conclusions/summaries.
Please, don't write a summary at the end of an article.
You should ask questions or elicit emotions, not repeat what you already said.
This is super common among inexperienced writers.
10. Not taking feedback seriously.
Editing is boring, a writer should understand the editor and fix what is needed.
I've edited something like 500 articles, not that many for some of you, but this was quite common.
You say something, they don't do.
