5 tips to develop elite-level mental toughness:
1. Change your identity
Everybody wants the outcome, but you need to change the stories you tell yourself first:
I don't stick to plans → I'm disciplined
I give in when it gets tough → I'm mentally strong
Mirror the habits of a mentally tough person to transform into one.
2. Clarify your Purpose:
When you’re faced with obstacles, you’ll need to know your Why.
And obstacles will come. Mentally tough people still feel fear and anxiety.
But when you know your purpose, you’ll overcome whatever life throws at you.
3. Invite adversity into your life:
Start with the mental game, but unless you're prepared to endure hardship, you won't become mentally tough.
Seek out challenges: long runs, cold showers, sticking to a diet, etc.
Then when life gets tough, you’ll be prepared.
4. Being physically strong makes you mentally tougher:
Rigorous and consistent training will build discipline and resilience.
But without a goal, it can be hard to keep going. Find an event you need to train for and commit to a plan.
Then execute it no matter the conditions.
5. Shatter external and internal limits
We often believe our own BS about having done enough.
The process of becoming mentally tough will look extreme to some.
Don’t listen to mediocrity. Become obsessed. You’ll love who you'll become.
