I’ve put 30,000 miles on Tesla’s flagship Model S PLAID in a year and a half. There are some things that I love, and some that I hate 🧵🧵🧵

I wanted to give myself a chance to get used to some of the quirks and features. Shoutout to Doug.
So the top 3 things to love are:
1 - Acceleration (never gets old)
2 - Supercharger network (ole reliable)
3 - Storage (Thee's tons in this hatchback. I've fit bikes in the trunk)

Top 3 things to hate:
1 - The complete lack of buttons. ESPECIALLY on the steering "wheel"
2 - The brakes. They're ok for normal diving. But the second you pass that (which is unbelievably easy in this car) the brakes can be dangerously weak
3 - The overall build quality

Easily #1 worst thing about the car for me is the lack of buttons. I’ve completely mapped my muscle memory to hit the blinkers on the wheel every time, but they’e still frequently unresponsive, and I’ve literally had to change lanes with no blinker. That should never happen.
Also, range estimates with EVs is a funny thing. PLAID is rated at 396 miles. I’ve never once gotten that.
At peak efficiency, driving like a grandma (painful in this car) I can probably get 360 miles (~290wh/mi)
Now with battery degradation, I’m rated for 365 and achieve 315

Overall though... it’s my favorite car. It’s one of very few EVs I could live with daily, considering all the road tips I make for ultimate frisbee.
