Argument tactics I avoid and see as a 🚩/ sign of bad faith:
-> "..X is a problem but not as big a problem as Y (in different domain)"
-> "..X may be good but one of X's supporters is bad so X=bad"
-> "..X may be good but one of X's tactics is the same as Y's so X=Y"
What these usually tell me is the person doesn't want to actually seek truth but either (a) has had their mind made up and/or (b) wants to actively sort the world into friends and enemies.
-> "X may be good but X is vaguely similar historical figure/incident Y so X=Y"
And my favorite - many have discussed this on Twitter before so not original
-> "X is good but it doesn't solve for obscure case Y so X is doomed"
@paulg has written the best piece on disagreeing -> paulgraham.com
@tylercowen and "mood association" is also related marginalrevolution.com
