When I was inputting all the forms of क्रोष्टु onto Wiktionary and double checking I noticed that they have given क्रोष्टुने (with नुमागमः) where one would expect क्रोष्टवे. I think they have applied इकोऽचि विभक्तौ by mistakenly assuming it to be neuter.
If we were to get नुम् then only इकोऽचि विभक्तौ should apply and there shouldn't be any trijvadbhava at all (as per वृद्ध्यौत्त्वतृज्वद्भावगुणेभ्यो नुम्पूर्वविप्रतिषेधेन) and there should be only one form, क्रोष्टुने.
So I think what they meant to say is that क्रोष्ट्रे is an alternative to क्रोष्टवे, with क्रोष्टवे being preferred to क्रोष्ट्रे.
