We're animals
We're designed to be outside, in the sun, with our feet on the grass every day
But modern technology has us stuck inside glued to our screens
Is it any wonder that we feel disconnected, distracted and out of control?

1. Spend more time in nature
If you're finding it hard to concentrate - take a step outside
You don't have to go barefoot but at least get outside and in the sun

Take some time to appreciate the environment
Look at the birds, look at the trees, crush a leaf under your foot and hear the crunchy sound
It sounds silly but this is therapeutic for the mind

Creating habits isn't easy but it's essential for change
If you've lost control of your life, you most likely have forgotten your habits or your routines
By re-committing to those habits that made you better, you regain control of your life

3. Defeat the addictions again
I know you already did it, but it's come back
Beating addiction can often be a recurring event
Eventually you will win but in the meantime, you have to keep fighting

One of the best ways to deal with addiction is by controlling the environment
I find it difficult to read at home but I can read outside for hours

You can create spaces in your home that are for specific activities and train your brain to focus on that activity while you are in that space
4. Make use of your emotions
Does it make you feel angry that you can't do something as simple as control yourself? It should
Use this anger to fuel your desire to get your life back under control
Don't be passive
Have some aggression towards the things that hold you back.

Anger gives you the spark that creates the momentum you need for positive change, this is what this emotion is for
So get angry (not violent) and start kicking ass.

5. Change your identity
You need to embrace the person you want to be
Don't think 'I'm trying to be better' think 'I am better'
Don't say 'I'm trying to go to the gym' say 'I go to the gym'.

Whatever it is you want to do - you ARE that person
- You don't drink
- You don't smoke weed
- You don't eat junk food
- You don't procrastinate
- You go gym
- You meditate
- You journal
- You read

6. Don't quit
If you fail DO NOT throw in the towel, it's not over just because you lost control once
Keep going and persevere
There may well be many times you fall but you keep standing back up and trying again until you have the life you want
