Let's analyze the World Cup Final! It wasn't #Messi vs Mbappe that decided the game, it was #LionelScaloni's defensive mindset vs offensive mindset that did. Lets break it down!
#ArgentinaVsFrance Tactical Analysis!
Scaloni went fearless and started the game with 4-3-3 and didn't go for a defensive 5 at back. Considering France attacks through flanks, this sounds foolish but read through to see how #Scaloni manipulated French attack!
He basically man-marked French attackers and midfielders!
De Paul pressed Theo Hernandez and #Molina on Mbappe, #Griezmann was taken care by Mac Allister, Touchameni by Alvarez. Whenever Theo gets the ball #DePaul was on him, objecting #Mbappe and Theo combo on France's left flank.
Even on the right when #Dembele received it, #Tagliafico was pressing him forcing turnovers and hindering their flow, if they couldn't win it neat, they went for rough tackles making it physical.
Which left Giroud, Griezmann and Mbappe isolated and couldn't combine with their team. The front three of Argentina, Messi, #DiMaria and #Alvarez made sure they cut the passing lines in between with #Allister and DePaul pressing French's midfield immediately.
Enzo fernandez had all the space he had as French started dropping little deep, #Enzo the pivot of Argentina was able to put himself in such positions to receive the ball and distribute for flanks or via middle cutting lanes!
Exactly what happened here, opens up France's defense via center and there it goes to the flank for DiMaria to attack it.
Also France couldn't shutdown Messi for first 80 mins, Messi was able to drop a shoulder and get into receiving positions. When Messi gets the ball, with zero pressure, you know the result.
He turns and initiates his usual maneuver looking to open up the right flank of France, and bringing #DiMaria into the game so easily. With Kounde on right, DiMaria had a cake walk!
Mac Allister pushed forward making Kounde to come short covering Alexis, meanwhile DiMaria stayed wide and waited for Messi's diagonal pass, and boom there you are DiMaria in his deadliest position with lot of space in behind.
Sometimes Argentinian CBs were able to send the ball directly to Enzo with no intervention.
And Enzo sent it right away to Di Maria breaking the entire French defense in two straight passes.
After DiMaria was removed in 64' min, which was quite early, #Scaloni wanted to switch to defensive formations which affected Argentina's control of the game. Defensive line was deep for Arg, allowed more control of the ball for #France.
And whenever Argentina recovered the ball, they were looking for Alavrez's behind the defense runs, which didn't workout so much thanks to the tired legs.
Though Argentina found themselves in similar positions like in first half, Acuna isn't DiMaria and he couldn't bring that deadly attack upfront on the left flank.
And there it was France pressed in last 10 mins, with less attacking options #Argentina dropped back forcing turnovers, and #Otamendi should have cleared it instantly but took his time and conceded a #penalty.
However, the team recovered in the ET, so did France then it went to penalties. But the fearless mastermind was #Scaloni not being scared of #Mbappe or #Dembele to go for 5, but went into attacking formation of 433 to dictate the game and win the trophy! #VamosArgentina 🇦🇷!
