Exploration for LCT Pegmatites using an XRF gun.
Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum (LCT) pegmatites can be detected by their extraordinary mineralogical and geochemical make-up.
They are enriched in tantalum, rubidium, tin, cesium, and lithium.
XRF is an acronym for X-Ray Fluorescence.
A process whereby electrons are displaced from their atomic orbital positions, releasing energy characteristic of a specific element. This is registered by the XRF detector, which in turn categorizes the energies by element.
A XRF measurement can be made in a matter of seconds. The actual time required for a measurement will depend on the nature of the sample and the levels of interest. High percentage levels will take a few seconds while part-per-million levels will take a few minutes.
Trueman & Cerny (1982) found correlations differentiating rare metal-bearing pegmatites from barren pegmatites. A low K/Rb ratio of 160 for example indicates increased fractionation. High fractioned pegmatites are composed of rare metals like Li, Ta, Cs, Be, and Nb.
The major lithium-bearing minerals are indicated as follows. Spodumene is what BRW is looking for. Spodumene contains up to 8.03% of Li2O (Lithium Oxide also called Lithia).

BRW uses the XRF gun to scan the rock, a process which only takes a few seconds.
The XFR gun detects if the mineral composition of the rock is typical for Spodumene. If that is the case then they have found a LCT pegmatite containing 8.03% of Li20, Lithium Oxide.
This means assays are no longer necessary to detect Li20 pegmatites. It is directly decided in the field. It's a rapid and cheap process.
BRW is generating pegmatite targets as many and fast as they can. In 2022 they tested around 200-300 targets.
If they find a Li2O pegmatite, with enough strike length, with enough high grade, which is close to roads and to power, then they plan on drilling it. The drilling will then confirm the Lithium, and will show if the deposit can be turned into a mine or not.
In James Bay alone BRW now has 200 untested pegmatites with a minimum 600m strike length.

2/ Next to Corvette Lithium (Patriot Battery Metals)
3/ Next to Cyr Lithium (Allkem). It decided to construct a Lithium mine/plant in 2023 ($380M)
BRW's property is adjacent to Allkem. Spodumen is detected in 3 distinct locations.
