A Maldivian politician named Abbas Adil Riza has called upon his radical supporters to attack the Indian High Commission in Malé.
Abbas happens to be a member of an Islamist political party named the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM).

After Nasheed was ‘forced’ to resign, his supporters held demonstrations at Republic Square in Malé.
This led to a clash between the protestors & the police, with the latter responding with lathi charge & tear gas shells. Several supporters of the President were arrested.
