Almost 2 months after the peace agreement signed between the #TPLF and the Ethiopian government, 5 districts in the Afar region are still occupied and controlled by the #TPLF. On 12/24/2022, in Tonsa, 2 elderly people and children, the number of which is unknown, were killed.
Those who fled recount scenes of horror, torture, killingthat they have never seen in their lives. Cut off from their region, inhabitants of these 5 districts don’t receive any humanitarian aid. #TPLF has taken #Afars hostage & no one talks about it. The siege is still in #Afar.
Why is the November 2 peace agreement a total fiasco?The situation of the #Afar region exposes:
1. Inability &resignation of GoE to have control over all Ethiopian territories including #Afar;
2. Belligerent attitude & lack of sincerity from #TPLF vis-Γ -vis the peace agreement.
What implications for the #Afars?
1. In times of war as in times of peace, it seems that what is happening in the #Afar region is deliberately ignored by the media for some reasons.

2. It took Professor Anne Fitz-Gerald's article to even recognize that the conflict had indeed spread to the #Afar region. And it continues in the most absolute indifference.
3. We call on the international community to put pressure on #TPLF to withdraw from #Afar territory.
4. We call on the Ethiopian government to deploy the national army to #Afar region to protect civilians and preserve the territorial integrity of the region.
End
