1888 US Postal Note.
The U & the S entwined, and also a mirrored P. With pentagonal imagery.
There are interesting theories on the morphology of the US dollar sign.
Some say it was based off the original peso, others say it’s from a blended U & S.
The origin of P is thought to have been symbolic of a mouth, or perhaps we could think of it as a portal. Or the vehicle for making the Word known. It originally resembled a Vesica, center point of sacred geometry.
The S represented a ‘hiss’ sound, it was also spear-like.
The Germanic rune S, Sowilo, or saiwalo, also had the ancient meanings of ‘Sun/Sol’.
Also, it may have been a pictograph of a tooth.
Here is an example of one of its first uses, describing the ‘wily deceitful one’ -
The combination of the two almost seems to suggest the
P/mouth/portal being absorbed and obscured by the S/serpent/spear.
The pillars merging over the lands, the symbols binding into one.
Similarly, if it was the U and the S, the same process would have occurred, obscuring the U, as the serpent twined about.
The etymology of ser-pent is to be pent up, to be confined.
This symbolic monetary serpent has done that to humanity.
Interestingly, when ‘us’ isn’t bound up, it can have doorway/portal connotations.
When ‘ps’ isn’t bound, it is a symbol of electrical conductance, a flowing energy.
The sinuous energy of this universe is all around us.
It is benign on its own, but capable of being used malignantly, like any potent force.
Such is the power of the $
