What if calamity befalls the king in an enemy kingdom?
Manu: right of primogeniture prevails
Kautilya: find someone suitable from his extended family for the throne. If not, then have a man of his caste impregnate the queen and princesses to give a heir who can be taught.
Kaninka: Even sons & father's fight each other for the throne (even when they don't deserve it), how much more meritorious is a minister who is the sole anchor of the kingdom?
He should have the royalty, councils and generals fight & kill each other and seize the throne for
himself.
Let him not disdain this by callin it unrighteous, for a woman approaching on her own curses when spurned.
Time comes but once for a man who wishes to accomplish a task & that time is hard.”
At this, even Kautilya calls him unrighteous as it incites revolt.
Kaninka is exactly the kind of a character who causes the paranoia amongst Fajia, who repeatedly utter that the King must never trust his ministers (something Kaninka also says).
But apart from this instance he'd very faithful to the King & willing to hit princes for him.
