1. Pursuing competitors’ links
2. Creating linkable assets
3. Content promotion
4. Guest posting
Let's dive into each one.
1. Pursuing competitors’ links
There's a reason why a top-ranking page is dominating the SERPs for your target search query: it has all the right links, among other things.
Studying its links can help you decide on the tactics to acquire similar links—and outrank that page.
👇
1. Pursuing competitors’ links (cont'd)
To do this:
- Plug your target keyword in Ahrefs' Keywords Explorer
- Go to SERP overview
- View backlinks + linking sites of top-ranking pages
- Click on any number to view a report listing all of the links.
Some actions you can take:

Linkable assets = content that's crafted to attract links.

2. Creating linkable assets (cont'd)
You can get inspiration by studying your competitors' websites:
- Plug their domain name in Ahrefs' Site Explorer
- Go to the Best by links report

3. Content promotion
Even the most linkable assets have to be discoverable—and that means promoting them in these three ways:
i) Influencers + communities
ii) Advertising
iii) Growing an audience
3. Content promotion: Influencers + communities
Before reaching out, ask yourself: "Who will amplify this, and why?"
Who = Influential people/relevant communities that might help to amplify your content.
Why = The merit of your content that makes it worthy of being promoted.
3. Content promotion: Advertising
Google, Facebook + Twitter are some options for running ads.
Alternatively, partner with influencers + content creators in your space and pay them to promote your content to their audience.
3. Content promotion: Growing an audience
Every time your content is promoted, you'll reach people who find value in it—so hold on to that by growing your audience!
The larger your audience, the less time you'll spend manually promoting your content.

It involves writing content for another website—in exchange for an opportunity to link to your website from it.
Two ways to get published in top blogs in your industry:
4. Guest posting: Start small and work your way up
Have a solid portfolio of published content on slightly smaller blogs.
This way, you'll have a higher chance of pitching successfully to the top blogs in your niche.
4. Guest posting: Start small and work your way up (cont'd)
For e.g. before pitching to a DR80+ blog, make sure you've a DR70+ piece to show them—and so on.
To find relevant blogs within your DR range, open Ahrefs' Content Explorer and follow these steps:
4. Guest posting: Make an irresistible offer
Every blog owner wants to grow traffic to their blog—so you need to prove your guest article will rank well in Google + bring them consistent search traffic.
This means building up your portfolio (see previous tip).
You can also:
