Finding your best program/school to study in the US, Canada, Australia, UK etc.
The step where you identify the best programs/schools to apply to is as important as anything because your life after school may depend on it.
Here is a guide on how to find programs/schools.
RT.
First step:
It’s important to know the kind of programs that will present job opportunities in that country. E.g, in Australia, international students tend to have more opportunities in social work & the path to PR may be easier if you studied this course or something similar.
Canada, UK, US etc all have similar patterns where some programs may have more post-study opportunities. Do your little research to know what will be best for your country of interest.
Second step:
Now that you’ve identified a program, the next thing is to find schools that…
…offer such courses. How?
Let’s say you’re interested in Microbiology in the USA. You begin by doing a broad search of "US schools offering MS/PhD Microbiology", "US schools offering MS/PhD Biology or Biological science" or Biomedical science" etc. & take note of the schools.
This search pattern is the same for any other programs or countries.
Third step:
After taking note of the schools, check in to each of the program website & identify particular research areas that interest you. Most importantly, cold email btw 2-3 professors per program.
Some will reply but others won’t. This is normal.
Following these steps does not only give your study abroad dream a clear direction but also helps you write an SOP with a clear idea of what your career path will look like in the near future.
Success!
