1. The Communications and Digital Ministry is investigating the alleged leak of customer data on a website, involving Maybank, Astro, and the Election Commission.
Its initial probes found that some Maybank account number info displayed on the site, were invalid or non-existent.
2. Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil says it also found a possibility that the alleged data leak may be in reference to an incident that occurred in 2018.
It is also seeking official confirmation from Maybank and Astro to ensure the legitimacy of data ownership.
3. Meanwhile, the probe into the EC data leak will be handed to the National Cyber Security Agency for further action, as it is outside the jurisdiction of the Personal Data Protection Act.
A restriction notice has been sent to the MCMC, to prevent public access to the website.
4. Earlier, Maybank released a statement to say that it was investigating the allegations, as it has not experienced a data breach.
